6 Months – I have feet and they are so interesting and even delicious

I wish I could bottle up how wonderful it is to have a six month old and cherish it forever.  Today I was looking at newborn photos of other babies from Finley’s photographer and I got a little nostalgic thinking that Finley isn’t a baby anymore.  It also hit me that I am going to be thinking this for the rest of her life.  Six months is so much fun, Finley has learned how to laugh and she laughs all day long.  She will do this little giggle sometimes because something is funny, but most of the time because hey she feels like laughing!!  She has also discovered her feet and man are they interesting.  She will spend hours looking at them, pulling on them, and even putting them in her mouth.  All of her discoveries are so much fun, but I have to say the best new development is 12 hours of sleep at night.  I don’t know how it happened, one night we put her down and she woke up 12 hours later, we did it again the next night – same thing.  I wish there was some magic formula so that I could write it down and lock it up if we have another child but Finley decided to sleep all night on her own terms.  I am sure she will decide to borrow the car and my clothes on her own terms as well; we have a very strong willed little girl.

The first six months of Finley’s life has been filled with so much change.  I have to hand it to her for being a wonderful child and just going with the flow.  In six months we lived in NYC, Park City and now we have finally settled in Houston.  I am so happy that we have decided to make a home and stay here for a very long time.   When I lived in Houston before I would say, “I wasn’t born here but I got here as fast as I could!” That is how I feel about Finley; Texas will be a wonderful place to grow up.  We are surrounded by wonderful family and friends and her Grandpa Slinger is only a few hours away – we can’t wait to see him soon!!!

5 Months - Wow my arms work

I didn't post this last month because our computer wasn't working....  She is six months on Sunday - I had better get to updating!

Over the last few weeks our home has been filled with friends and family.  It is so much fun to introduce Finley to people who will be so important in her life.  Our first visit was from Aunt Jenny and Bob.  We had a great time watching the snow, cooking, hanging out at home and getting to know Bob.  Our next visit was from Jodie and Beth for our third annual girls ski weekend.  This was Finleys first girls weekend (Todd spent the weekend golfing in Palm Springs).  Finley spent two days in Deer Valley Daycare while I got to ski with the girls.  Deer Valley has the most darling childrens center, Finley will get to spend a lot of time there in the coming years.

Finley will be 5 months on Sunday.  Where has the time gone!  Last night Todd and I went for a walk and I said to him it seems like so long ago that she came into our lives, it is hard to even remember those first few fussy weeks that she had.  At 5 months we are finally getting onto a nice schedule.  Finley takes three naps a day and we try to get her in bed between 7 and 8 at night.  Her morning nap is my favorite.  She will wake up around 8am, have her fruit and her milk and then she will play until 10am.  She is usually so happy for us to put her down for her morning nap because she plays so hard in the morning.  She will typically take between a 1.5 or 2 hour nap after which she will wake up, eat and play again until she goes down for her afternoon nap.  Her afternoon nap can sometimes be over three hours.  We have a great napper but she doesn’t really like going to bed at night, especially if we have guests over.  Finley does not want to miss out on any social interaction!  She is getting much better with her hand coordination.  She has started reaching for objects.  I laugh and say her arms look like they are controlled by the spaceship – they are very slow like the mechanical arms that do work from the spaceship.  Everything that she can get in her hands goes directly into her mouth, delicious.  She is also getting much more verbal and can be very loud at times.  Most of the time she makes sweet, yet loud, noises.  We have two more weeks in Utah before we head back to NYC.  I wish I could bottle up the beautiful view and fresh air and take it with us when we leave.
